What is Personal Training Insurance?

Personal trainer insurance provides coverage for accidents that can occur during a personal training session, such as bodily injury or property damage. It can also cover any costs to repair or replace damaged or stolen equipment and gear. You can add additional insureds to your policy, allowing you to train clients in a variety of locations like gyms, private studios, corporate offices, spas, online, and more.

Insurance Canopy’s policy includes general and professional liability insurance, online personal training insurance, and personal trainer public liability insurance. Full time, part-time, and student trainers can all receive coverage under our policy for just $12.50 a month.

Why Do I Need Personal Trainer Insurance?

No matter how careful you are while training, accidents will happen—and that’s okay! Having personal training liability insurance can make handling accidents and claims easier. If someone hurts themselves during a training session or accidentally breaks your equipment, you can relax knowing Insurance Canopy has your back.

In addition to becoming a certified trainer, having insurance shows clients and gym owners you take yourself seriously as a trainer. You can easily show them your Certificate of Insurance and add them to your policy as an additional insured. If you offer nutrition or dietary advice as part of your services, you can add our nutrition endorsement onto your policy and be protected against claims your advice caused a client harm.

General liability insurance protects you against lawsuits and the costs to repair or replace any property damages. Some of these claims could also be slip-and-fall accidents and stolen equipment incidents.

Professional liability insurance protects you in case of malpractice or negligence, meaning if you do something wrong and harm or injure your client during a training session.

Insure My Training Business

Yes. Unfortunately, accidents happen everyday due to physical activities or negligence of a personal trainer. Personal training liability insurance is an important component of your business and is designed to protect your financial assets if you were to be sued as a result of your business operations.

You could be held liable for claims that include injuries, illnesses, or damages arising from your personal training services. The legal costs alone from claims like these can be financially devastating. You also may be held liable to pay for multiple doctors visits, and any loss of income if your client is unable to work. With personal trainer insurance, you'll have the protection you need just in case something goes wrong, and avoid having to pay hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars out of pocket. Hopefully you won’t ever need to use your insurance coverage, but it is much safer for your business to have a policy in place in case anything ever happens.

This gives you the opportunity to access your account and view your documents wherever you are.

On your online dashboard, you will find a “site seal” you can use to show your clients your business is insured. When your clients know that you have personal trainer insurance, they instill more trust in you and your business becomes more credible.

This site seal can be published on your website, printed on your business cards, or shown in your office. Use this proof of insurance to advertise your business, helping you set yourself apart from your competitors.

Definitely! Online personal training insurance provides coverage for virtual classes. We understand virtual classes have been on the rise and want to make sure you have coverage for your class formats.

A live virtual class, conducted via Zoom, social media, or a similar platform, is covered by Insurance Canopy’s personal trainer insurance policy. This coverage can also work for a previously recorded video such as a YouTube channel.

Insure My Personal Training Business

Having an additional insured means that you can add property management or HOA’s to your insurance policy so they can receive protection if they are named in a suit due to a covered business-related loss or claim you have caused. If you do in-home training at your house, you could add your HOA as an additional insured. Or, if you are training someone in a privately owned gym, you can add that gym as an additional insured.

In addition, a written contract, such as a venue, studio rental, or employment contract is required to add another party as additional insured. Additional insured status cannot be granted to a friend or co-worker as an extension of your policy. Each individual must purchase their own policy to obtain liability coverage.

Of course! One additional insured is $15, whereas an unlimited amount of additional insureds is $30. You can select the amount of additional insureds you would like to add when you are filling out your personal trainer insurance application.
